For the first time in more than 30 years, Kuwait exported zero barrels of crude oil in one month. This happened in April 2026. According to a tracking website, this situation has not occurred since the end of the Gulf War in 1991. The main reason is the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, an important route used to ship oil around the world. Even though Kuwait is still producing oil, it is not exporting crude oil right now. Instead, the country is storing some of its oil and using some of it to make refined products, which are still being exported. This situation shows how serious the disruption in the region has become, especially for global oil supply and trade.
