A temporary 10-day ceasefire has come into effect in Lebanon, raising hopes for renewed diplomatic efforts between Israeli and Lebanese officials. The truce follows days of intense fighting, including deadly Israeli strikes just hours before the ceasefire began.
US President Donald Trump has said that a broader deal to end the conflict with Iran is “very close,” adding that talks could resume soon in Islamabad.
Iran has welcomed the ceasefire, describing it as part of a wider understanding with Washington to reduce regional tensions. However, officials have acknowledged that key issues remain unresolved, including nuclear concerns, uranium stockpiles, and control over the Strait of Hormuz.
A Hezbollah official said the group would approach the ceasefire cautiously, signaling uncertainty about its durability.
Despite the positive signals, deep disagreements over military capabilities, regional influence, and long-standing mistrust between the US and Iran continue to pose major challenges to any lasting agreement.
