Hezbollah is using a new type of drone in southern Lebanon that is proving difficult for Israel to stop. These drones are controlled using fibre-optic cables instead of radio signals, which means they cannot be easily blocked or jammed. Because of this, Israeli defense systems struggle to detect or intercept them. The drones are also cheap to make, costing only a few thousand dollars, while the missiles used to stop them are much more expensive. The drones can be guided from far away using long cables. Operators fly them directly into targets like military vehicles, bulldozers, or groups of soldiers, where they explode on impact. Israel has said it may expand its attacks to target Hezbollah’s drone production sites deeper inside Lebanon. Meanwhile, Hezbollah claims it has successfully used these drones in recent attacks on Israeli forces. This tactic has become more effective, especially after the ceasefire, as Israeli troops moved further into southern Lebanon. The situation continues to remain tense.
