The Israeli army said its soldiers damaged a religious building in southern Lebanon while carrying out military operations. The incident happened in the village of Yaroun. According to the army, troops were working to destroy what they called “militant infrastructure” in the area. During this operation, a building inside a religious compound was damaged. An Israeli military spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, said soldiers did not realize at first that the building was part of a religious site. He said there were no clear signs showing it was a place of worship. Once they noticed other buildings in the area were religious, they stopped further damage. However, a Catholic charity group said the damaged building was a convent and criticized the attack. The group called it a “deliberate” strike on a place of worship. The Israeli army said its forces were in the area because Hezbollah had launched rockets from within the compound towards Israel. The situation remains tense, as fighting continues in southern Lebanon despite a ceasefire agreement.
