A Palestinian family says Israeli settlers forced them to remove their father’s grave in the occupied West Bank near Jenin. Hussein Asasa, 80, died of natural causes on Friday and was buried in the village cemetery after getting approval from the Israeli military, according to his family. Soon after the burial, settlers arrived and claimed the land belonged to a settlement. They demanded the grave be removed and threatened to destroy it with a bulldozer. Fearing the grave would be damaged, the family said they had no choice but to dig up the body themselves and move it to another cemetery. “We found that they already dug the grave and reached the body,” Hussein’s son Mohammed Asasa told Reuters. Videos shared online showed settlers and Israeli soldiers at the scene while the family carried the body away for reburial.
