Two passengers, one from the US and one from France, tested positive for hantavirus after leaving the cruise ship MV Hondius. Another American passenger also showed mild symptoms.
The ship is currently docked in Spain’s Canary Islands after an outbreak linked to a South America trip. Three passengers have died, including a Dutch couple and a German woman.
Health officials are monitoring passengers and tracing contacts. Hantavirus is usually spread by rodents, but some strains can spread between humans. Symptoms include fever, tiredness, muscle pain, vomiting and breathing problems.
