Mojtaba Khamenei, the new supreme leader of Iran, has not been seen in public since the death of his father, Ali Khamenei. According to Iranian officials, he is staying away from public events because of serious security concerns. They say there are ongoing threats against his life, especially after warnings from Israel. Ali Khamenei was reportedly killed in a US-Israeli strike in February. Iranian reports also say that four other members of his family died in the same attack. These included Mojtaba Khamenei's wife, sister, brother-in-law, and his 14-month-old niece. Reports also claim that Mojtaba Khamenei was injured during the strike but survived. Funeral ceremonies for the late leader are taking place over six days in Tehran. Large crowds have gathered to pay their respects, and officials from many countries are expected to attend. However, Iranian authorities have confirmed that Mojtaba Khamenei will not attend any of the public ceremonies because of security risks. They believe appearing in public could make him a target for another attack. Even though he has not been seen in person, Iranian state media has published several written messages said to be from Mojtaba Khamenei. These messages are being presented as his official statements to the Iranian people. In one message released on June 18, Mojtaba Khamenei said he had approved a memorandum of understanding signed by the presidents of Iran and the United States. He explained that he personally had a different opinion about the agreement at first. However, he said he accepted it after receiving assurances from senior Iranian officials that it would protect the rights of the Iranian people and support what Iran calls the "resistance front." Later, on June 28, another written statement was released in his name. In that message, Mojtaba Khamenei strongly condemned the attacks by the United States and Israel. He called for justice and accountability for those responsible for the military strikes, including the attack that killed his father and other family members. He said that those responsible should be held accountable for their actions. According to the statement, he believes the people behind the attacks must face punishment for what he described as criminal acts. So far, there has been no public appearance, speech, or video from Mojtaba Khamenei since becoming Iran's new supreme leader. This has led to questions from both inside and outside Iran about his condition and when he might appear before the public. Iranian officials continue to insist that he is leading the country while remaining in a secure location. They say his absence from public events is only temporary and is necessary because of the current security situation. The situation comes at a time of high tensions between Iran, the United States, and Israel. Military threats, political disagreements, and regional conflicts have increased concerns about the safety of Iran's top leaders. Iranian authorities say they are taking extra precautions to protect the country's new supreme leader. For now, Mojtaba Khamenei remains out of public view, with only written statements being released through state media. Whether he will appear publicly after the funeral ceremonies or continue to remain in a secure location is still unknown. Iran says his safety remains its top priority while the country deals with ongoing regional tensions and security challenges.
