Residential Building Damaged in Kyiv

Zelenskyy said the missile strike damaged a residential building in Kyiv, with fire spreading through apartments from the first to the eighth floor.

Rescue workers and emergency services were at the scene, evacuating residents and fighting the fire.

According to Zelenskyy, one person had been killed and six others injured at the time of his statement. The final casualty figures were not yet known.

Major Kyiv Power Plant Hit

Zelenskyy said the attack also hit CHPP-4, one of Kyiv’s key energy facilities.

He described the strike as a serious concern for the city’s energy infrastructure, particularly as Ukraine continues to face Russian attacks on critical facilities.

Zelenskyy said Ukrainian systems detected the ballistic missiles only when they were close to Kyiv. He criticized the lack of advance warning from international partners, saying this had happened for a second time.

Zelenskyy Warns of Further Missile Attacks

The Ukrainian president said intelligence reports indicated Russia was preparing additional ballistic missile launches.

He argued that the latest attack showed Russia was continuing to target Ukrainian energy infrastructure despite discussions about an energy ceasefire.

Zelenskyy called on international partners, particularly the United States, to recognize what he described as Russia’s responsibility for the continued war and to help strengthen Ukraine’s defenses.

He said Ukraine was working to replenish its air defense systems with anti-ballistic missiles.

Ukraine Discusses Diplomacy With Canada and the United States

Zelenskyy said he spoke with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and informed him about the Kyiv attack and the reported lack of advance warning.

They also discussed contacts with the United States and possible diplomatic developments during the week.

Separately, Zelenskyy said Ukraine had sent the American side proposals for further meetings and talks. He named Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner as recipients of the proposal and said Ukraine was ready to meet in the coming days.

He called for genuine steps toward de-escalation and an end to the war.

Ukraine Advances EU Membership Talks

Zelenskyy also announced progress in Ukraine’s efforts to join the European Union, saying negotiation clusters two and three had been opened.

He thanked European officials and EU member states for their support, including António Costa and Ursula von der Leyen.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine wanted to open the remaining two clusters by the end of the year, with the goal of opening all six negotiation clusters.

What Happens Next?

Emergency teams are continuing their response to the damage in Kyiv, while authorities assess the impact on residents and energy infrastructure.

Ukraine is seeking additional air defense supplies and further diplomatic talks with the United States and its European partners. Zelenskyy has also called for international pressure on Russia to stop attacks and pursue meaningful de-escalation.
