Russian mercenaries working with Mali’s army have agreed to leave the city of Kidal after two days of heavy fighting. The separatist group Azawad Liberation Front says it now controls the city. The clashes were part of coordinated attacks across Mali, including the capital Bamako. Fighting was also reported in several other cities. Reports say Mali’s Defence Minister Sadio Camara was killed near Bamako, though the government has not confirmed this yet. Mali has faced years of violence from armed groups linked to extremist organizations. The recent attacks are being described as one of the largest in years. The rebel group says an agreement has been reached for Russian forces to safely withdraw from Kidal, and they are being escorted out of the city. Meanwhile, the Malian army says it is increasing security and will respond to the attacks.
