An Iranian official has warned that a new shipping route suggested by the United States in the Strait of Hormuz is dangerous and difficult to use.
Due to rising tensions, many ships are stuck after Iran effectively restricted access to the strait, which lies between Iran and Oman. This has caused fuel prices to rise and created concern in the global economy.
The US-led maritime center advised ships to travel through waters near Oman, calling it a safer route. However, Iranian media reports say at least two commercial ships are now stuck while trying to use this path.
According to reports, the waters near Oman’s coast are rocky and shallow, making it hard for ships to move safely. Areas near Musandam Peninsula and nearby islands are especially risky for large vessels.
Iranian sources say this southern route is not suitable to become a major shipping lane because of these natural dangers. Overall, the situation adds more risk and uncertainty for global trade passing through the region.
