The United States is working with Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE on a new United Nations Security Council resolution about the Strait of Hormuz. The draft resolution calls on Iran to stop attacking commercial ships in the important waterway and end attempts to impose tolls on passing vessels. US officials also said the resolution demands that Iran stop placing sea mines in the Strait and reveal where any mines are located. An earlier UN resolution on protecting shipping routes failed after Russia and China blocked it in the Security Council. According to the US representative to the UN, this new proposal is more focused and mainly targets the issues of tolls and sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
