According to CENTCOM, American warships were attacked by Iranian forces while passing through the Strait of Hormuz on May 7. The US said Iran launched several missiles, drones, and small attack boats at Navy destroyers including the USS Truxtun, USS Rafael Peralta, and USS Mason. Officials said none of the US ships were damaged. In response, the US military carried out strikes on Iranian military sites that it said were linked to the attacks. CENTCOM said the strikes targeted missile and drone launch areas, command centers, and surveillance locations. The US military added that it does not want a bigger conflict but is ready to defend American forces in the region.
