President Donald Trump has rejected Iran’s latest response to a US proposal aimed at ending the ongoing war.
In a social media post, Trump called Iran’s response “TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!” and accused Tehran of “playing games” with the United States and the world.
According to Iranian media reports, Iran demanded a full end to the war, the removal of US sanctions on Iranian oil sales, the lifting of the blockade on Iranian ports, and the release of frozen Iranian assets.
Iran reportedly sent its response through Pakistani mediators on Sunday. Iranian officials said the current talks are mainly focused on stopping fighting in the region.
Iran also repeated that it is willing to continue a ceasefire if the Strait of Hormuz is reopened and negotiations move forward to end the conflict.
The US says the war was launched to stop Iran’s nuclear programme, reduce its missile capabilities, and weaken its support for regional armed groups.
After Iran restricted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, the US responded by blocking Iranian ports, creating major disruptions in global oil trade and increasing fuel prices worldwide.
