Trump and Xi Jinping visited Beijing’s Temple of Heaven during their meeting in China. The two leaders were seen walking together while a guide explained the historic site. When reporters asked Trump how the talks were going, he replied, “great.” However, when asked several times whether Taiwan was discussed, Trump did not answer and instead praised China. Taiwan remains a sensitive issue between Beijing and Washington. China sees Taiwan as part of its territory and says it could use force to take control if needed. The United States officially recognises China under the “One China” policy, but it also supports Taiwan and provides weapons for its defence. A large US arms package for Taiwan is reportedly expected to be discussed in the Xi-Trump talks.
