Iran says it is introducing new rules and controls for ships travelling through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil and gas routes.
Iranian officials say the strait is still open, but friendly and neutral countries will be allowed easier access, while enemy nations could face restrictions.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says all ships passing through the area should coordinate with Iranian authorities. Iran is also discussing possible transit fees for oil tankers and other vessels using the route.
Officials further stated that military ships will not be allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz under the new system.
