António Guterres has welcomed the 45-day extension of the ceasefire in Lebanon following talks between Lebanese and Israeli officials in Washington. The United Nations said it supports all efforts to reduce violence and ease the suffering of people living on both sides of the Blue Line, the border area between Lebanon and Israel. The ceasefire extension came after US-mediated discussions between the two sides on Thursday and Friday. Israel says its military actions are aimed at Hezbollah targets, although Lebanon says the ceasefire has been repeatedly violated. Lebanon’s Health Ministry reported that 18 people were killed and 124 others wounded during the past 24 hours.
