The United States says it carried out air strikes on Iranian military radar and drone facilities near the Strait of Hormuz after an American drone was reportedly shot down. US officials described the attacks as self-defence.
Iran said it responded by targeting an air base it claims was used by US forces. Iranian officials warned that any further US attacks would bring a stronger response.
At the same time, Kuwait said its air defence systems intercepted missiles and drones, and it strongly condemned what it called repeated Iranian attacks.
The latest fighting comes despite ongoing talks aimed at turning the current ceasefire into a longer-term peace agreement. US President Donald Trump said he still believes a deal can be reached, but negotiations have slowed after reports that Washington requested changes to the proposed agreement.
One major issue is the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route for global oil and gas supplies. The route remains disrupted, causing concerns about rising energy prices worldwide.
Iran has accused the US of changing its demands during negotiations, while Iranian officials insist that any agreement must fully protect Iran’s interests.
Although a ceasefire is officially in place, recent military exchanges show that tensions remain high. With both sides trading accusations and carrying out strikes, uncertainty continues across the Middle East, and hopes for a lasting peace deal remain unclear.
Summary
The US says it attacked Iranian radar and drone sites after what it called aggressive actions by Iran. Iran responded by targeting a US-linked air base, while Kuwait reported missile and drone attacks. The clashes come as efforts to reach a peace deal between the US and Iran remain stalled.
