At least nine people were killed and many others were injured after Russia carried out a major overnight attack across Ukraine.
In the capital city, Kyiv, four people died and more than 50 were injured. Two apartment buildings were hit, and rescue teams are searching for people trapped under the rubble.
In Dnipro, five people were killed and 25 were injured after missile and drone strikes.
The attacks caused fires, damaged homes, and led to power outages in some areas. Air raid warnings were issued across much of Ukraine, and many residents took shelter in metro stations.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had earlier warned that Russia might launch a large-scale attack. Russia said the strikes were in response to recent Ukrainian attacks on Russian-controlled areas.
The latest assault comes as fighting between Russia and Ukraine continues with no sign of a ceasefire.
Summary
Russia launched a large overnight missile and drone attack on several Ukrainian cities, killing at least nine people and injuring dozens. The hardest-hit areas were Kyiv and Dnipro, where residential buildings, infrastructure, and industrial sites were damaged.
