At least 27 people have been killed following a Russian drone strike in the village of Myla, near Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said. The attack caused a large explosion after a warehouse was struck, damaging nearby buildings and infrastructure. Residential buildings were among those damaged in the blast. A care home for elderly people and people with disabilities was also affected, raising concerns about the safety of vulnerable residents. More than 300 personnel from Ukraine’s State Emergency Service have been sent to the area. Emergency teams are searching damaged buildings, helping injured people and assisting residents who need to leave the area. So far, more than 370 people have been evacuated, while the evacuation operation is continuing. Dozens of people were also reported injured and are receiving medical assistance. One of those killed was Taras Didych, the head of the Dmytrivka community. According to Zelenskyy, Didych was helping rescue people when he was killed. Zelenskyy expressed condolences to the families and loved ones of everyone who died. Ukrainian authorities have also started an investigation into how the warehouse was being used. The National Police and Security Service of Ukraine are conducting a pre-trial investigation, with criminal proceedings opened over possible official negligence. Zelenskyy said ammunition should not be stored close to homes or other residential areas under Ukrainian regulations. He said those responsible for allowing the situation to happen must be held accountable and that authorities would draw the necessary conclusions from the incident. The deadly incident came as Russia launched another large wave of attacks across Ukraine overnight. Zelenskyy said more than 260 attack drones, including Banderol drones, were used against several regions. The affected areas included Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, Kherson, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Donetsk and Chernihiv. Zelenskyy said Kyiv has faced almost continuous attacks involving jet-powered drones, making air defence an increasingly urgent issue for Ukraine. He called on international partners to continue supporting Ukraine with additional defence assistance and stronger sanctions against Russia. According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine needs more help to protect its cities and civilians from continued drone and missile attacks. Rescue and evacuation operations near Kyiv are expected to continue as authorities assess the full extent of the damage and investigate the circumstances surrounding the warehouse explosion.
