Iran launched a series of missile and drone attacks against US military and US-linked targets across the Middle East last night, following fresh American strikes on Iran.
Iranian forces reportedly targeted locations connected to US forces in Jordan, Kuwait, Iraq and Bahrain. The attacks came after the United States resumed military operations against Iran following a period of reduced fighting.
The Iranian Red Crescent said that five people were killed and more than 50 others were injured in the southern Iranian town of Sirik. According to Iranian officials, shrapnel from a US missile hit a home where a wedding celebration was taking place. A child was among those reportedly killed.
The US military said it was aware of reports about the incident but denied deliberately targeting civilians. US Central Command said the American strikes were directed at Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, or IRGC. Washington said the strikes followed what it described as recent Iranian attacks or attempted attacks involving commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and US forces in the region.
Iran's IRGC warned that the United States would face consequences for its actions. Iranian forces later launched ballistic missiles toward a US Marine base in Jordan's Aqaba area.
Jordan's armed forces said its air defenses intercepted 13 ballistic missiles. Ten missiles were destroyed, while three landed in remote areas. Jordan said there were no deaths or injuries from the attack.
Kuwait also reported Iranian missile attacks last night. Its military said air defense systems were activated to respond to the incoming missiles.
Explosions were also reported in Bahrain. Iranian state media said the IRGC attacked US bases in Iraq's autonomous Kurdistan region. It claimed that a maintenance center, warehouses and military equipment were damaged.
Iranian state media also reported explosions and military activity in several locations along Iran's southern coast, including Chabahar, Konarak, Jiroft, Qeshm Island and Bandar Abbas.
The latest exchange of attacks is part of the wider US-Iran conflict, which has been growing for months. The United States and Israel launched major strikes against Iran on 28 February, while Iran responded with missile and drone attacks against Israel, US military bases and other US-linked locations in the region.
A ceasefire agreement later reduced the fighting, but the agreement eventually expired. The renewed attacks show that tensions between Washington and Tehran remain extremely high.
The Strait of Hormuz has become one of the main areas of concern. The waterway is a major route for global oil shipments, and military activity around it could affect international shipping and energy markets.
The latest Iranian attacks last night have raised fears of further escalation. With both sides continuing to accuse each other of aggression, there are growing concerns that the US-Iran conflict could expand and involve more countries and US military bases across the Middle East.

The US attack reportedly hit areas in southern Iran, including Sirik, where Iran says five people, including a child, were killed during a wedding celebration.
