Ukraine and Canada are strengthening their cooperation as the war with Russia continues.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the two countries have signed an agreement to begin co-producing drones. Under the arrangement, 30% of the drones produced will go directly to Ukraine. The drones will be used on the battlefield to support Ukrainian soldiers and help protect civilians.
Zelensky said the drones will be delivered to Ukraine’s people and military as quickly as possible. He stressed that the technology is important for protecting Ukrainian soldiers, families and children during the ongoing war.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canada will continue to stand with Ukraine. He said Canadians understand the importance of Ukraine’s struggle and strongly support the country’s fight for its future.
Carney described Ukraine’s cause as being closely connected to Canada’s own values and history. He praised the Ukrainian people for continuing to resist despite the enormous pressure caused by Russia’s full-scale invasion.
Carney also pointed to predictions made by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the beginning of the invasion. According to Carney, Russia expected to defeat Ukraine very quickly. Early expectations included taking Kyiv within days and forcing the Ukrainian government to collapse.
However, those predictions did not come true.
Ukraine continued fighting and defending its territory despite the Russian military’s invasion. Carney highlighted the country’s long resistance and said Ukrainians have shown extraordinary determination.
He said Putin expected the Ukrainian state to crumble and believed the Ukrainian people could eventually be broken. Instead, Ukraine has continued to resist.
Carney said the war has now lasted far longer than Russia initially expected. He praised Ukraine’s soldiers and civilians for their courage and determination.
The new drone cooperation represents another step in Canada’s support for Ukraine. Drone technology has become increasingly important in modern warfare, particularly for surveillance, targeting and battlefield operations.
For Ukraine, receiving part of the jointly produced drones directly could strengthen its military capabilities and provide additional equipment for its forces.
The agreement also shows that Canada intends to maintain its support for Ukraine as the conflict continues.
Carney ended his message with a strong statement about Ukraine’s future, saying that Ukraine will never submit.
The partnership between Canada and Ukraine demonstrates continued Western support for Kyiv and reflects the growing importance of technology and drone production in Ukraine’s defense against Russia.
Summary
Ukraine and Canada have agreed to begin co-producing drones, with 30% of the drones going directly to Ukraine’s battlefield forces. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney also reaffirmed Canada’s strong support for Ukraine and praised Ukrainians for resisting Russia’s invasion.
