Attacks Spread Beyond the Front Lines

According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Russia has expanded the war from the battlefield into Ukraine’s economy.

He said Russian forces are targeting facilities that help civilians survive the effects of the war. These include food warehouses, gas stations, pharmaceutical facilities, passenger trains, residential buildings, and civilian businesses.

Recent attacks have also reportedly struck a steel plant owned by an Indian company, a sunflower-oil facility operated by an American company, and a Polish plumbing-fixtures manufacturer.

Other targets have included truck parking areas, ports, shopping malls, and energy infrastructure.

Pressure on Ukraine’s Economy

Zelenskyy said Russia’s goal is to weaken Ukraine’s economy and damage the country’s ability to continue resisting the invasion.

The attacks have increased pressure on businesses, disrupted supply chains, and threatened essential services. Damage to energy facilities and transport networks can also affect civilians by limiting access to electricity, fuel, food, and medicine.

Call for International Condemnation

Zelenskyy said Russian attacks must be met with justified responses, but also called for strong moral and political condemnation from Ukraine’s international partners.

He urged allies to recognize that the strikes are not only military actions but also an attempt to destroy Ukraine’s economic strength and civilian resilience.

As drone attacks continue, Ukraine faces growing challenges in protecting infrastructure, maintaining economic activity, and supporting its population during the war.
