What Happened?
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan accused Israel of following policies that prevent peace, stability, and development in the Middle East.
Fidan said Israel seeks to occupy Palestinian territories, exclude Palestinians, and block the creation of an independent Palestinian state.
He also claimed that Israel wants to prevent neighboring Arab and Muslim countries, including Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and Egypt, from becoming strong, stable, and economically successful.
Fidan Criticizes Israel’s Actions
Fidan said Israel relies heavily on threats, hostility, and military force across the region. Referring to the war in Gaza, he accused Israel of being unable to imagine a policy based on anything other than bloodshed.
He also claimed that Israel’s attacks on Syria’s military capabilities indirectly benefit terrorist groups such as Daesh.
Call for a Security Agreement
Fidan said a permanent solution in southern Syria should be based on the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement.
He called on the international community to take a stronger and more effective position on the issue.
Syria’s Regional Importance
Fidan said Syria could play an important role following recent events in the Strait of Hormuz.
He described Syria as a potential connection between the Gulf, Iraq, the wider Middle East, and Europe through Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye.
He said Türkiye wants to develop these links through practical projects, including:
* Railways
* Highways
* Pipelines
* Regional trade routes
Possible Visit to Syria
Fidan also said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is planning to visit Syria in the near future.
He added that Erdoğan has wanted to make the visit for a long time and that officials are working to arrange the necessary conditions.
