Fidan Warns Against Further Expansion of the War
Fidan said Turkey does not want to see the Russia-Ukraine war spread into the Black Sea or other European countries.
He warned that geographical expansion of the conflict would be the last thing Turkey wants to see and said further escalation could lead to additional disasters.
War Has Become More Destructive
According to Fidan, the conflict has shifted over the past year from a war of attrition toward what he described as a “war of destruction.”
He said more locations and types of targets are now being affected, while civilian casualties have continued to increase.
Fidan argued that the conflict could continue escalating geographically, methodically and in terms of the targets being attacked.
Fidan Calls for Diplomacy on Iran
Fidan also addressed the conflict involving Iran, saying Iran's security, stability and prosperity directly affect the wider region.
He called for the conflict to be resolved through diplomatic means as soon as possible, warning that increasing attacks between the sides are undermining peace efforts.
Call for Safe Passage Through Strait of Hormuz
Fidan also called for safe, uninterrupted and free passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
He said the situation should return to the pre-war status quo as soon as possible.
Turkey Welcomes Azerbaijan-Armenia Peace Efforts
Fidan said Turkey was pleased with recent developments toward a final peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
He also praised Azerbaijan's constructive approach and said a completed peace process could open a new period of regional cooperation.
