US President Donald Trump has claimed that China has agreed not to provide weapons to Iran, as he pledged to permanently reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said that China supports his move to reopen the waterway, calling it beneficial for both Beijing and the global economy. He added that such a situation would “never happen again.”
Trump also spoke positively about his relationship with Chinese President Xi Jinping, saying he expects a warm welcome during his upcoming visit to Beijing scheduled for May 14–15, which will mark his first trip to China in his second term.
“We are working together smartly and very well. Doesn’t that beat fighting?” Trump said, while also warning of US military strength if needed.
The remarks come after US-Iran talks held in Islamabad failed to produce a breakthrough earlier this week. Following the stalled negotiations, the United States imposed a naval blockade on the Strait of Hormuz, which took effect on Monday.
The situation highlights ongoing geopolitical tensions, even as diplomatic efforts continue behind the scenes.
