French President Emmanuel Macron spoke at a press conference in Paris alongside Lebanon’s Prime Minister Nawaf Salam. He said that peace in the region can only happen if Israel withdraws from Lebanese territory. Macron also said that Hezbollah should be disarmed by the Lebanese people with support from the international community. He added that southern Lebanon needs to be rebuilt so people can return to their homes. He criticized Hezbollah, saying it made a “strategic mistake” by getting involved in the war in Iran and using military power instead of letting the state handle such matters. Macron also said Israel must give up any territorial ambitions and understand that its security depends on having a strong and stable Lebanon.
