The United States has announced that it will not extend special permissions (waivers) that allowed limited purchases of oil from Iran and Russia.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that any oil shipments from Russia that are still in transit will not receive extra time or approval. He also made it clear that there will be no exceptions for Iranian oil shipments either.
He stated that strict measures are already in place, including what he described as a blockade, meaning Iran cannot export oil freely. According to him, no Iranian oil is expected to leave under current rules.
This decision shows that the US is continuing its strong pressure on both Iran and Russia, especially during ongoing global tensions. The move could also affect global oil supply and prices, as restrictions on major oil producers remain tight.
