US President Donald Trump has made several major announcements covering foreign policy, oil, the economy and healthcare. Speaking to reporters, Trump strongly rejected the idea that he would use a nuclear weapon against Iran. When asked if he could use nuclear weapons, Trump said there was “no reason” for it and called the question stupid. He said Iran was already defeated and argued that using a nuclear weapon would not be necessary. Trump also spoke about the Strait of Hormuz. He said the US had strong control over the important waterway and claimed that around 30 ships were moving through the area each night with help from the US Navy. He stressed that Iran must never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon. On Venezuela, Trump announced that millions of barrels of Venezuelan oil could soon be sent to the United States. He said American refineries are designed to process Venezuela's heavy crude oil. Trump said major US oil companies, including Exxon and Chevron, would be involved. Trump described the Venezuela arrangement as a deal that could benefit both countries. He said Venezuela had large oil resources that had remained largely unused and that American companies could help develop them. The president also discussed the US economy and interest rates. Trump said the US could achieve much higher economic growth if interest rates were lower. He criticized the Federal Reserve for worrying about inflation when economic growth is strong. Trump also returned to the issue of prices and affordability. He blamed the previous Biden administration for high prices and said his administration was working to reduce costs for Americans. Healthcare and prescription drug prices were another major focus. Trump, alongside Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., announced an expansion of his “Most Favored Nation” drug-pricing plan. He said pharmaceutical companies were offering some medicines to Americans at very low prices. Trump claimed the new agreements could save hundreds of billions of dollars and reduce the cost of medicines for millions of Americans. He highlighted discounts on weight-loss drugs and fertility medicines and said the TrumpRx program now offers hundreds of medicines at reduced prices. Trump also briefly addressed reports about Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth potentially considering a 2028 presidential campaign. Trump said it was too early to discuss the 2028 election and said Hegseth was doing a good job. The president also criticized New York Governor Kathy Hochul over the release of prisoners, while urging voters to support Republican candidate Bruce Blakeman. Overall, Trump's remarks covered several major issues, including Iran's nuclear program, the Strait of Hormuz, Venezuelan oil, interest rates, crime and healthcare costs. Some of his economic and savings figures were presented as his administration's claims and would need independent verification.
