President Donald Trump is preparing to play a major role in the upcoming U.S. midterm elections. He says he will campaign for Republican candidates with the same energy he used during his own 2024 presidential campaign. Trump is urging his supporters to vote in large numbers. He told voters to “pretend I’m on the ballot”, saying many people who support him do not always vote in midterm elections. Trump argued that Republicans could win easily if his supporters turn out to vote. He said that when his name is on the ballot, his supporters are highly motivated, but midterm elections can have lower voter turnout. The president also warned that a Republican defeat could lead to major changes in U.S. policy. He criticized Democratic positions on immigration, transgender issues and participation in sports. Trump said Democrats would support open borders and policies that he strongly opposes. Trump also spoke about America’s relationships with its allies. He complained that the United States spends billions of dollars supporting other countries and questioned whether those countries provide enough support to the U.S. when Washington needs help. South Korea was one of the examples Trump mentioned. He said the United States has around 40,000 troops stationed there and claimed that South Korea was reluctant to provide assistance when the U.S. faced tensions involving Iran. Trump said he would remember the response when considering future U.S. support. Trump also criticized Canada and argued that the United States has been losing large amounts of money in its economic relationship with its northern neighbor. He defended his decision to impose substantial tariffs on Canadian goods and said he believes the U.S. has been taken advantage of for years. During his remarks, Trump also reflected on his political career. Asked whether he would make the same decision to enter politics again, he said he had a wonderful life but felt that his “Make America Great Again” message was extremely important. Trump also recalled an incident during a State of the Union address when a 100-year-old veteran was honored. He criticized Democrats for not immediately applauding and claimed they were instructed not to clap. According to Trump, Democrats eventually joined the applause after being told that their reaction looked bad. With the 2026 midterms approaching, Trump is making clear that he wants his supporters to remain politically active. His message is simple: Republicans need high voter turnout if they want to keep advancing Trump's agenda and maintain political power in Washington.
