Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made strong statements about both Iran and Gaza, outlining his vision for Israel’s security in the coming years.
Speaking about Iran, Netanyahu said that Iran’s current government will eventually fall. He claimed that the regime is already “on its last legs” and said that Israeli systems are working under his direction to help bring about its downfall. His comments come as tensions between Israel, the United States and Iran remain extremely high.
Netanyahu has repeatedly argued that weakening Iran is important because Tehran supports armed groups across the Middle East and has been a major opponent of Israel. However, whether Iran’s government will actually collapse remains uncertain. Recent reporting indicates that Iran’s leadership has continued to survive despite heavy military pressure and economic problems.
Netanyahu was also asked what he expects Gaza to look like in five or ten years.
He said he wants Gaza to become a place where no one even considers attacking Israel, because Israel would maintain strong security control over the area. Netanyahu has previously said that Israel would not allow Hamas to rebuild its military capabilities and has supported continued Israeli security control until Gaza is fully demilitarized.
This position is controversial because the future political and security control of Gaza remains one of the biggest issues in discussions about ending the conflict. International efforts have focused on ceasefire arrangements, Hamas disarmament, civilian administration and reconstruction. Meanwhile, Israeli forces continue limited military operations, saying they are aimed at preventing Hamas from rebuilding.
Netanyahu’s statements therefore point toward a future in which Israel wants lasting security control around Gaza while also continuing pressure on Iran. Critics, however, argue that military control alone cannot provide a lasting political solution and that Gaza’s future will also depend on Palestinian governance, reconstruction and broader regional diplomacy.
Summary
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he believes Iran’s current regime is close to collapse and that Israel is working to help bring it down. On Gaza, he says Israel wants long-term security control so that attacks against Israel cannot be launched from the territory again.
