Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says American officials will travel to Russia and Ukraine in the coming days as diplomatic efforts continue to find a possible path toward ending the war. According to Zelenskyy, U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are expected to visit Moscow first and then travel to Kyiv on Sunday. He said Ukraine is preparing for the visit and wants the discussions with the American side to be serious and productive. Zelenskyy said Ukraine is ready to help make sure the American officials can travel safely. He pointed to previous diplomatic visits by U.S. officials, when Russia’s airspace was kept safe for negotiations. He also called on Russia to avoid military strikes while the American delegation is traveling and holding talks. Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine would not carry out air strikes during the necessary period for the visit. He said Russia should also show the same restraint and avoid attacks so the negotiations can take place without additional military escalation. The Ukrainian president said the main goal is to use the meetings to find realistic ways to move the war toward an end. He said Ukraine wants to understand what proposals the American officials will bring and what response they receive from Russian officials. The planned meetings come as the war between Russia and Ukraine continues, with both sides still facing major disagreements over territory, security guarantees and the conditions for a possible peace agreement. Zelenskyy said Ukraine is ready to listen and work with the United States on possible solutions. However, he indicated that the talks need to produce meaningful results rather than simply become another diplomatic meeting. The visit by Witkoff and Kushner could therefore become an important part of ongoing U.S. efforts to encourage negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow. For Ukraine, the key issue is finding a way to stop the fighting while protecting its security and national interests. For the United States, the talks could provide another opportunity to understand Russia’s position and explore whether an agreement is possible. Zelenskyy said Ukraine will prepare for the American delegation and hopes the discussions will be constructive, serious and focused on finding a real path toward ending the war.
